Dear grappler,

Let me ask you a question. . .

Do you like going to seminars, yes or no?

I ask this because as someone who’s obsessed with BJJ, they’ve always been a mixed bag for me.

Here’s my biggest complaint with most of the seminars I’ve been to. . .

  • You get blasted with too many techniques that you can’t remember. (Even if you really like something that is shown you have little time to drill it.)
  • You can’t record techniques and are given no video of the seminar. (Notes for BJJ can be rough to put back together later on.)
  • The Instructors aren’t engaged with the group. (Some will teach a move then sit on their phone and text till the next technique!)
  • Show off techniques. (Some seminars are filled with ineffective techniques that look cool but are a waste of time.)
  • You don’t get much of a chance to chat or hangout with the instructor. (As soon as the seminar is over they’re out!)
  • Sometimes they’re not even fun and can be downright boring! (No jokes, no casual conversation and no laughing.)
  • You learn techniques that won’t work for your game.

Those are my dislikes from some seminars. Maybe you have some others that aren’t listed.

With that said, my good friend Brandon Mccaghren and I are putting together a 3 Day No Gi BJJ Experience.

But we didn’t want it to be like any ole BJJ seminar type thing.

So if you’re interested in training with us, let me give you some more info on why you might want to join us in April.

It’s Going To Be Different. . .

If you come to the full 3 day event, expect some unexpected twists and turns that aren’t typical at your average seminar.

Since Brandon and I will be meeting many of you for the first time, we aren’t interested in just showing techniques and leaving. We want to spend some time seeing your game and helping you specifically if we can. We want it to feel like a completely different experience than the "show up, drill, take a picture" seminar model that we have all grown accustomed to.

So, expect it to be a little different than a usual seminar or BJJ camp. . . in a good way!

One Of The Most Impactful Seminars I Ever Attended

One of the most impactful seminars I’ve ever been to was done over two days and I was able to record the techniques. During those two days we worked on the same areas and I was able to go back to the recordings later on.

The recording part kind of sucked because I was paying attention to my smart phone instead of the seminar.

But having the recording allowed me to review the information for years so that as I improved in BJJ I could implement more details I missed the 1st time around.

And because we focused 2 days instead of 1 I was able to build at least a little muscle memory.

That seminar plus those videos literally changed several aspects in my guard passing game (I’m not exaggerating even a little bit), and it would not have happened at a normal seminar.

At a normal 1 day seminar I would have forgotten most, if not all, of the techniques. And I would have walked away with no video to review later on.

A Chance To Remember The Techniques

With that in mind, we wanted to create something similar for you!

Game Changers will be a 3 day BJJ experience, beginning on April 24th and ending on April 26th.

Each day will consist of multiple sessions. Some focused on techniques, some on rolling, others on Q&A and others we’ll keep a secret for the event.

In addition to an immersive 3 day experience we will include a professional recording of the entire camp.

You won’t have to sit there with your smartphone missing valuable details like I did. Instead you’ll be able to focus 100% of your attention on the teaching and then receive access to the videos (yours to keep) after it’s all over.

This will help you retain and implement the information you learn more effectively.

Not Another Boring Seminar

I’ve been to some seminars that are amazing and full of open dialogue, conversation and are just fun in general.

I’ve also been to more seminars where it’s a little on the boring side.

You get blasted with techniques, the instructor wants nothing to do with you, there’s no casual conversation and absolutely no laughing or cutting up. . .

NONE!

I don’t know about you but that’s just not my vibe.

Maybe you like going into a stuffy environment where it’s super serious and you’ve got to call some guy master. For me, I enjoy a light-hearted environment where we train hard but also have a good time with each other.

If you’ve followed Brandon and/or I on social media then you’ll know we train hard but we like to cut up and have a good time.

And when you meet us in person at the Game Changers event you’ll quickly figure out we are the exact same way in person.

So be prepared to not only learn BJJ but have a great time and meet new people within the Jiu-jitsu community.

Engaged Coaching

True story, as a coach and gym owner there have been some instructors I’ve seen teach seminars. . .

Who I would NEVER invite to my gym!

Sometimes the explanations were long and boring. 1 guy went on a 23 minute tangent (I timed him) about something that had nothing to do with training.

Another taught a technique and then did not engage with the class. Instead, he sat in the corner texting on his phone and eventually taught the next technique. And once the seminar was over he high-tailed it to the airport.

Now, if you’ve ever been to one of my seminars or Brandon’s then you’ll know we are both engaged coaches.

When I teach I do my best to make the information simple but entertaining. And I also walk around the class making corrections and working with people hands on as much as possible.

Usually after a seminar I’m drenched in sweat. Not from rolling but from keeping the energy up and making corrections.

Brandon is the same way.

When he came out to teach at my gym a little over a year ago the reception from everyone was so good that we brought him back before the year was up.

He’s a true student of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and has a powerful way of breaking down complicated ideas and techniques into simple to understand explanations that will impact your game immediately.

On top of that he’s an engaged coach who runs around the class making adjustments and answering questions all while telling fun stories along the way.

As a coach I appreciated his efforts. In both seminars he really delivered to my students both teaching sessions.

As a student of BJJ myself I love his teaching style and found it entertaining and helpful.

Now I’m picky about who I associate with in regards to my name and Chewjitsu brand.

But when we came up with the idea to do a BJJ camp together I was excited because I know he will deliver the BJJ goods to you!

Oh, in addition to engaged teaching...

Neither of us teaches candy techniques.

Candy tastes good but there are no real nutrients, right?

Well there are a lot of techniques out there that look really cool but aren’t practical. Both Brandon and I coach hobbyists, competitors and MMA fighters alike, so our techniques have to be practical and effective.

So, I promise you in April you’ll learn solid information in an entertaining way. And 100% no disengaged coaching or junk techniques that will never work.

Would You Like To Join Us For Dinner?

Over the last few years I’ve done several seminars and when it’s possible I arrange a dinner after it’s over.

I started doing this because years ago I went to a Judo seminar taught by Olympic silver medalist Neil Adams.

After the seminar was over there was a big get together on a farm where I was able to have a conversation with him about ideas on training, dealing with injuries and his career and decision to not compete back when he was in his 30s.

The conversation left a deep impact on me and was very useful to my training, even more so than the seminar itself!

And this is a common occurrence for me.

I often gain the most valuable insight from people through casual conversation. Sometimes gems of experience come out over casual conversation and food or drink.

So I like to include this option for others as well.

Also, I know that you probably know Brandon and I from Youtube, Instagram or some other social media platform. And so I’m sure you might like the chance to hang out and shoot the breeze for a bit.

So at the Game Changers event we will be including Q&A sessions where you can talk with us about whatever you’d like. . .

And for those of you who want a little more.

We will be providing a private dinner where you can chat with us over a meal and maybe a drink.

(*Disclaimer, Brandon doesn’t drink and I’m a lightweight. So don’t expect shots or anything.)

You Tell Us What To Teach

While Brandon and I have some techniques and areas of focus we plan to cover we want this seminar to be impactful to YOU!

So if you register early you’ll have the chance to fill out a survey telling us what you’d like covered during the 3 days.

This will allow us to tailor the event to be of the most use to you.

There’s a lot more to cover but I think you get the basic idea. But just to recap with the TDLR version in case you don’t want to read. . .

  • 3 Day BJJ Experience.
  • A full professional recording is available. (This will help you retain and implement the information for years to come.)
  • Focused technical instruction tailored to your game. (Sign up early and tell us what you might like to learn.)

  • Multiple Q&A sessions. (A chance to talk through ideas on techniques, positions, or philosophies and mindsets with training.)
